Design Inspiration: Matte Black

Contemporary elegant luxury living room

Matte finishes in general have made a huge comeback lately, but if you want to be ultra chic, then black (and dark charcoal) is the way to go. It may seem intense, but black home decor can give a beautiful sleek and elegant touch to otherwise everyday decor. With it’s current popularity, there is a vast array of decor available in the trendy new finish.

Matte black is not only great with an achromatic palette, but it’s also great with colour and striking when coupled with bold colours as below.

The range of hardware and furnishings now available in this finish are extensive; everything from drapery and linens to tapware, baths and sinks can be purchased or custom made. Another great pairing with matte black is to add a gloss black for a contrast of finish rather than colour.

Want to dip your toes in this trend? Try some black linens, drapery or accessories to add some drama to the room, this way you can easily change decor at a later stage.

Here black has been used to create contrast between the walls and the doors/window frames; this creates a crisp, clean look.

But how does this apply to window treatments? I’m glad you asked!
Black translates beautifully to curtains, either as dramatic solids or ethereal sheers. Sheers can also be softened or tinted by adding a different colour lining behind that can be slightly seen through the sheer. Below are some beautiful examples of black sheers from our suppliers.

This has to be one of my personal favourite trends, black is always timeless and creates a beautiful drama in any room.
